Birch leaf (Betula)

EMA-monograph aquaretic for urinary tract irrigation, gentle European traditional option.

Why

Birch leaf (Betula pendula and B. pubescens) holds an EMA HMPC Traditional Use monograph for increasing the amount of urine to achieve flushing of the urinary tract, as adjuvant in minor urinary complaints. Used in European phytotherapy as a gentle aquaretic. Similar profile to goldenrod and Java tea.

How it works

Flavonoids (hyperoside, quercitrin) and saponins produce aquaretic effect via increased renal blood flow and tubular flow, without significant electrolyte excretion. Anti-inflammatory effects on urinary mucosa.

Expected onset · Diuretic effect within hours; symptom relief over days
